Amidst the venue bookings, cake tastings, and seating plans, one question keeps cropping up: Is an engagement shoot really necessary?

I genuinely believe having engagement photos taken is important for two reasons.

First, this time allows you, as a couple, to get comfortable in front of the camera with your photographer , and figure out how you work best together before the main event. There's something valuable about experiencing a photo session before your wedding day, when the stakes feel a bit lower and the timeline isn't quite so tight.

Second, you can showcase your personalities in a more casual setting, whilst creating some fun, memorable images for wall portraits, wedding sign-in books, save-the-dates, and the like. These engagement pictures become part of your wider wedding story, building anticipation for the day itself whilst giving you something beautiful to share with family and friends during those exciting months beforehand.

I'm not a traditional engagement photographer who'll position you into uncomfortable poses or interrupt your conversations to smile at the camera on command.

Instead, I work like a guest with a camera—present but unobtrusive, capturing genuine moments as they naturally unfold rather than manufacturing them.
